Simple ways to back up your Android Device

Have you got yourself a new Android device and you want to know how to back it up so you don’t lose any of your important data or the photos you took of your last (and best ever) night out? Have you had your device for ages but have never bothered to sort out any form of back up? Whichever of these categories you fall into, if you lose or damage your phone you run the risk of losing everything in there. So before this happens to you, here’s a simple guide on how to back up your Android phone or tablet, which will secure all of your important contacts, photos, videos, data and more.

  • First off, you could purchase an app to do it for you. Even if you don’t have much tech know-how, it’s really simple to do it yourself as Android have already made provision to back up some of your most important data. By simply opening ‘Settings’ on your menu, you’ll find an option to backup and reset. Once you’ve found this, just ensure that you enable the ‘back up my data’ and ‘automatic restore’ options, and your Wi-Fi passwords, app data, Chrome bookmarks and other settings will be covered.
  • Android devices sync perfectly with cloud storage services so, wherever possible, use them to back up your core information such as email, contacts and your calendar. Many people with Android devices choose to use Google’s Sync Services, which enable you to back up all this important data. Tap on your GMail account and you’ll see what is and isn’t being synced to Google’s servers and, best of all, when you sync the data it will be available on any other device that you use to sign into your Google account.
  • The easiest way to ensure your photos and videos are backed up is to simply back them up to Google Photos. You can store an unlimited number of standard resolution files and you can keep them private or share them with other users.
